The student and I did a general sweep of everything he had learned in Calculus thus far this year. His teacher had given him a packet to do as review before his final exam. One thing I noticed with him is that his confidence has improved considerably. He was able to do derivatives in seconds that had once taken us half an hour. I am very impressed with his progress. He did not show signs of weakness in any category in particular. One thing he was unsure of, however, was when to take derivatives. From the list of questions he was given (roughly 70), I compiled a short list of "buzzwords" that mean you need to take the derivative. Once this list was compiled, it was easier for him to tell when exactly he needed to take the derivative.
