How can a Calculus tutor help you?

Calculus is an often-feared topic that has been known to make even the best students struggle. Some find it fun, while others struggle and simply may not seem to grasp infinite series or integration by parts. Most of high school math seems to be a huge build-up to the infamous topic of calculus - quadratic equations, trigonometry, logarithms, and the mean value theorem may all reappear. Because the course is so cumulative, you need to have a strong foundation built from every math class before you start calculus. Varsity Tutors may help you locate an independent tutor in Kansas City who is experienced in helping students prepare for calculus.

An expert calculus tutor in Kansas City, MO, may develop a study plan to try to help you make the most of your abilities to succeed in your course. Our educational directors may connect you with a tutor best suited to your personal needs - one who matches your personality and learning style, while having the knowledge to teach you everything you need to know for the course. This tutor may then assess your current knowledge and see if you have any information gaps that may harm your scores further down the road. Whether you're preparing for the Advanced Placement Calculus AB exam, taking third semester college calculus, or are simply learning the topic for fun, we may find an expert calculus tutor in Kansas City, MO, who might help you towards your goals and potentially even realize that calculus really isn't as terrible as many make it out to be. A tutor may help you work to understand geometric series or related rates and learn how to find the volume of that funny shape that might show up on your next exam. Your tutor could even help you find how much work it would take for a fisherman to reel a shark up with a chain.

Session Summaries by Calculus Tutors

Calculus Tutoring review by Daniel in Kansas City, MO
Primary focus on his 4th chapter, dealing with 1st and second derivatives and their applications to understanding graphs and what they look like. Continued focus on optimization and modeling problems. We started off dealing with problems that would give a function and ask questions about the first and second derivative (i.e. giving a rough idea of what those functions looked like). Looked at graph of first derivative and tried to work backwards to get an idea of what the original function would look like. Further looked at pulling information such as inflection points, maxima, minima, global max/min, etc. from the graph using the derivatives. Finally, moved into covering optimization problems again, going through several - largely geometrically based - problems in order to get used to the format of reducing a multiple variable problem to a single variable by using a given restriction.

Calculus Tutoring review by Lee in Kansas City, MO
We worked on integration of trig functions, which each have their own complex tricks. We eventually figured out what the professor was getting at with each problem. She is very strong in Algebra, which helps.

Calculus Tutoring review by Anna in Kansas City, MO
The student and I worked on the review problems in the Antiderivative chapter. We found areas under a curve, used summations, and used the rules of integration to integrated various both definitive and indefinite integrals including exponential and logarithmic.

Calculus Tutoring review by Haley in Kansas City, MO
We started off the session with sketching graphs given only the equation. Then we did some practice problems that were foreshadowing into the work for this upcoming week. This included some more limits but also using linear approximations to estimate values. The student has a test coming up next Monday.

Calculus Tutoring review by Michael in Kansas City, MO
Discussed logarithm properties, implicit and logarithmic differentiation, finding slopes of tangent lines to curves, using anti-derivatives to find curves and how to use classification of material to better analyze and prepare for test problems. He obviously retained the information learned last time as his application of the chain rule (of several nested functions) was better by an order of magnitude. He is not afraid to ask questions about material he does not know thoroughly nor does he shy away from trying to answer a question with which is unfamiliar. He has benefited from tutoring and will do well to continue.
