Meet Darius

A PhD archaeologist and host of exploration shows on National Geographic, Discovery, and PBS, Darius has rappelled down caverns, explored underground churches and temples, and crawled through ancient sewers in his quest for history and discovery. He has led excavations of famous Roman landmarks and partnered with leading organizations to research and preserve classic treasures, but his true passion is inspiring students to explore the wonders of the world both near to and far from them.

Darius's Daily Explorations

Who better than an archaeologist to design daily adventures that explorers will love to dig into?! Each day features unique trips back in time and around the world, with expert instructors leading hands-on projects and leading campers to dazzling discoveries.

Exploration 1: The Wonders of The World Ancient civilizations left us plenty to remember them by, including the Seven Wonders of the World. Today we’ll explore those wonders and examine why we remain so fascinated with our ancient ancestors. Civilization Spotlight: Mesopotamia & Egypt

Exploration 2: Magical Myths & Legends So much of our world is inspired by ancient myths, from our fairy tales and superheroes to the names of planets and stars. Today we’ll explore the legends of the ancient world and see how common they are in our daily lives. Civilization Spotlight: China & India

Exploration 3: A Time Machine Treasure Hunt Much of the modern world looks the way it does because kings, queens, and adventurers alike explored the seas in search of ancient treasure. Today we’ll examine the great treasures and treasure hunts of the ancient world...and do some treasure hunting of our own. Civilization Spotlight: Greece & Rome

Exploration 4: Incredible Innovations That Lasted Ancient thinkers and inventors were far ahead of their time; in fact, much of what they invented is still in use today. Today we’ll look at the most amazing innovations of the ancient world, and see how we use them every day. Civilization Spotlight: Ghana, Mali, & Songhay

Exploration 5: Where Are They Now? The ancient civilizations may have ended, but their bloodlines and ruins carry on. Learn how these great civilizations ended, where their descendants are now, and how you can visit and explore these ancient wonders yourself. Civilization Spotlight: Aztec, Inca, & Maya

Small Groups, Expert Instructors

Camp sessions feature small groups of 6-9 campers led by an expert instructor, ensuring maximum participation, guidance, and collaboration. Instructors are chosen after an extensive vetting process that includes teaching demonstrations, background checks, and interviews to ensure both subject mastery and teaching ability.

AfterCamp Archaeological Adventures

As legend has it, Alexander the Great wept when he ran out of worlds to conquer. That’s not a problem here! When daily sessions are over, campers can head to the Learning Lab where Darius will guide them through interactive online challenges around the world.

Unplug Projects

As Darius can attest, archaeologists need to get their hands dirty. So the Darius Arya Ancient Adventures Camp clubhouse is full of downloadable, hands-on projects to explore.

Ancient Adventures StarCourses

Join Darius live from exotic ancient locations in his Varsity Tutors StarCourse sessions. Campers will receive exclusive access to Darius’s live events: he’s taught from the Colosseum, the Forum, and even a pyramid. What’s next? Campers will have a front row seat to find out.
