What Is Changing?

In late 2023, the GRE adopted a shortened format. While question types and content coverage areas remain the same, students will want to adapt their study and test day strategies to accommodate the new format.

  • The new GRE has an updated format, with shorter sections.
  • They removed the “Analyze An Argument” analytical writing activity entirely. Students only need to prepare for the “Analyze An Issue” essay.
  • The update test no longer includes a 10-minute break; students will sit for the entire 1 hour and 58 minute test at once.
  • This new GRE is designed to be more user-friendly. Not only does the experience clock in at just under 2 hours, but official scores are now sent to institutions in 8-10 days (down from 10-15)
