How can a Biology tutor help you?

Biology is described as the study of life. It is based on five basic principles, including cell theory, gene theory, evolution, homeostasis, and laws of thermodynamics. From those five branches are subcategories such as zoology, anatomy, physiology, and cell biology. Because this subject is so complex and has so many branches, it can be very difficult for some people to grasp. If your child is struggling with concepts like photosynthesis, eukaryotes, osmosis, and genetics, let the educational directors at Varsity Tutors help you find a tutor in Laguna Niguel, CA, who can guide your child as they work to understand their biology course.

Private tutoring has many great benefits. Your child might be able to ask as many questions as needed in order to fully understand the material. He or she will also be able to receive immediate feedback from an expert, breeze through concepts that have previously been understood, and focus on areas where they struggle most. For example, terminologies like lysosomes, metabolism, viruses, and vacuoles may sound complex. But through engaging and fun instructional methods, the tutor will try to help your child to make sense of them. Any of the independent biology tutors that Varsity Tutors can connect you with are experienced professionals. In-person, as well as online instruction, is available, and your child's assigned tutor will work around your schedule.

Biology Tutoring review by Danielle in Laguna Niguel, CA
We went over the students old test to figure out what she had done incorrectly and I then helped her go over what she missed and she seemed to be able to correctly do most of the problems on her own. We also went over nomenclature of organic compounds and she asked me various questions about that and thermodynamics.

I brought the student some acids and bases worksheets for practice. She finds this unit easy and flew through those worksheets. She is able to calculate pH and pOH determine conjugate acids and bases, and right the acid and base constant. After that we started a practice exam because her teacher will be giving them weekly quizzes. We identified a few topics that the student is not very confident in. Next week we will be going over redox reactions and organic chemistry.

Biology Tutoring review by Orkhan in Laguna Niguel, CA
The student learned the concepts of pH and pOH in class. While we touched upon the topic in our first session, we briefly reviewed it, and did 6 practice problems on the topic. I went over the monoprotic, diprotic and polyprotic acids, and explained the steps for finding the yield of H+, based on the initial concentration of an acid given. We reviewed the basics of strong acids and weak acids. I also presented full step by step derivation of Henderson Hasselbalch equation for buffer solutions of weak acids, to give the student full understanding of the concept.

Biology Tutoring review by Angeli in Laguna Niguel, CA
We covered organic compounds, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle, and the water cycle. We also covered the atomic diagrams. The student struggled with understanding what was important from her notes and readings and what was not. But once explained the concepts, she had an 'aha' moment where several concepts fell together. She was eager to learn and really got excited when she understood some of the core concepts. We used YouTube videos to visualize some of the processes and understand how they happen in real time. We definitely had a win when she really grasped the idea of how the carbon cycle works and the role carbon plays in photosynthesis.
