Biology Tutoring review by Karla in Chandler, AZ
I was really pleased that she completed her assignment in two days. We went over what she learned because this was all new material that I asked for her to do on her own. We then discussed factors that affect solubility of solid and gas solutes. I tried to give her life examples to keep her engaged in conversation. I asked her to read ahead to the end of the chapter.

Biology Tutoring review by David in Chandler, AZ
Today was my second session with the student. We went over the basics of performing stoichiometry problems and talked about the significance of breaking down difficult word problems into simple steps. I explained the importance of understanding the questions that are being asked rather than just memorizing how to do them. We spent time going over one of the more difficult word problems and beginning the chapter on gases. Next time, we will cover acids and bases and continue learning about gases.

Preparing for the student's quiz on Monday, we covered double replacement and decomposition reactions. We also went over some homework problems. We broke the problems down to their basics, went over the compound names, learned how to balance the charges, and of course balance the stoichiometric coefficients.

Biology Tutoring review by Annica in Chandler, AZ
In preparation for the student's test tomorrow, we reviewed topics from unit 2 (chapters 4, 10, and 18). Her professor had provided a study guide, so I made sure to cover all topics to be tested. We reviewed with two methods: conceptual overview and specific practice problems that were challenging. Particularly, we addressed isotopes, electromagnetic (EM) radiation and energy, energy levels of hydrogen (excited/ground states), the Bohr model of the atom, nuclear transformations, nuclear fission and fusion, and half-lives. The student already understood many concepts, but she had trouble with some practice problems in interpreting graphs, doing half-life problems, and understanding practical applications of EM waves. I explained how to approach the problems and she was able to successfully complete them. I suggested that she do some more review this evening, and then get enough sleep for the test tomorrow!

Biology Tutoring review by Tejas in Chandler, AZ
The student took his chapter 1 exam last week on various cycles. He believes he did well but does not know his score. Today, he worked on his homework, which involved notes on division. He does very well on his own and is a great independent learner, so I try to do my best to connect the work to everything together. It was his first time with the material, so he did not know everything yet. I believe by next Monday, he will know the material much better.
