Despite discovering a wealth of information for many centuries, plenty of mysteries and enigmas still remain in this world. For students in the fields of medicine, biology, and sciences, the study of our bodies, or anatomy, can be an incredibly rewarding and difficult subject to tackle. I helped her review concepts in adaptive immunity and a few that needed clarification. We covered concepts of humoral and cellular immunity, antibodies, antigens, and passive vs. actively acquired immunity.

Finally, I gave him advice on how to prepare for our next session with regard to his next journal club discussion. I also presented him with study questions on the "Bacteria Growth and Nutrition" and "Control" lecture topics.

Anatomy Tutoring review by Rikke in San Jose, CA
As her final exam is this week, this was my last scheduled session with the student, and we spent the majority of the time reviewing material from the beginning of the semester. We briefly covered virology (virus structure, genomes, proteins, different modes of infection; bacteriophages, comparison/contrast to animal and plant viruses), the fundamentals of cell biology, and then went on to spend the rest of the time going over genetics and molecular biology (pro- vs. eukaryotic genomes, DNA structure/chemistry, replication, transcription, translation, mutation, genetic code, gene regulation, lac operon). We rounded off by also talking a little bit about test taking strategies, likely exam scenarios, and the importance of rest and nutrition for optimal intellectual performance. I wish her the very best of luck on her final exams and in her future pursuits!

We covered amino acids, peptides, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structures. We looked at how you would draw the amino acid and peptides based on the pH of the solution. Then we went over how to write out peptide sequences. And then what interactions stabilize tertiary and quaternary structures. Since he has an Organic Chemistry background, it will help him in his class.
