How can a tutor assist you in conquering Algebra?

Mathematics is a challenging class for some students. For some, understanding how numbers are meant to interact comes naturally. However, for others, the entire concept can be confusing, especially when the student progresses to algebra, and integers are introduced. These concepts are important to your student's future academic success, and they are tested on the PSSA. Algebra can bring new frustration for students who've always struggled with math, but with the help of a tutor, the course may be easier to navigate. Varsity Tutors' educational directors can assist you in your search for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, algebra tutoring that can make the course less stressful for your student.

If math has given your student issues throughout their schooling, then it is likely that they have a few weak spots. A private tutor can meet with your student and conduct assessments to determine where these weaknesses are and why they are occurring. Once your student's tutor has completed their assessment, they can create a curriculum that centers around the hardest areas for the student. Because Philadelphia algebra tutoring doesn't have a set curriculum, your student can take the time they need to learn the concepts. If one topic in particular causes issues for your student, then extra time can be spent reviewing it in multiple ways until your child is ready to move one.

Session Summaries by Algebra Tutors

Algebra Tutoring review by Kevin in Philadelphia, PA
The student and I went over rational equations and how to add, subtract, multiply and divide them. We also went over how to perform long division of polynomials as well as related rate problems. We spent a good deal going over these problems but more practice would be great so he can complete the problems we did not do on his worksheet. He is understanding these problems very well as is but just needs more practice and it takes time to recall all the techniques used to perform each problem. We accomplished quite a lot during this session so it went very well.

Algebra Tutoring review by Cynthia in Philadelphia, PA
The student and I worked on factoring polynomials for about an hour, since he is going to retake the quiz tomorrow. We spent another focused 20 minutes or so working some additional examples. While he completed his biology, I made a quick review for him to go over the next day. Our next session will be Sunday evening, May 12th.

Algebra Tutoring review by Rebecca in Philadelphia, PA
The session went very well. I am figuring out how to access what the student knows and how to help her learn more easily. We went through half of her review for her math exam including pos/neg integers, absolute numbers, using coefficients in problem solving and order of operations.

Algebra Tutoring review by Brianna in Philadelphia, PA
The student and I completed her homework for this chapter. It appears she didn't receive a study guide, so we might have a little more to do before moving on to the next section. It took a while, but she does seem to understand negative exponents, and is doing an awesome job with scientific notation.

Algebra Tutoring review by David in Philadelphia, PA
Today the student and I covered algebra review. We went over factoring, simplification of polynomial fractions, algebraic manipulation of equations, and representing geometric relationships as polynomials. Overall he did a great job and made tremendous progress throughout the session. It seemed that he very clearly understood what needed to be done to solve the problem when I would ask him step by step, but when left alone to do the work, he would get confused. I recommended a little more practice with his factoring and gave him a few problems to try on his own for the next session. I also emphasized various ways to check his work after selecting an answer, ultimately to provide him with more tools to get the questions correct on test day.
