Algebra Tutoring review by Marco in Johns Creek, GA
Today we worked on homework for the student's Algebra class. I helped her do practice problems out of her textbook. We did work on sequences and series as well. She knew the difference between geometric and arithmetic series, and I showed her an equation to solve for the "Nth" term of a geometric series once she knew the common ration, Un=U0+R^n. Before she was solving these problems by hand finding all of the preceding terms before the nth term. We also worked on solving word problems with rates of change, such as interest rates compounding annually, quarterly, monthly, etc.

Today we worked through problems to prepare for her exam on Friday. This exam covers graphing linear equations and writing prediction equations. The student understands the concepts but needs to slow down and think about what she is doing and what she is trying to solve for. We also completed a Biology lab report which looked at population growth and how it relates to the availability of resources.

The student had some homework about squares and square roots. He seems more confident in his work, re-writes if something is illegible, and generally, seems more interested in completing the homework. His planner was complete for all except the previous Friday. There is a weekly requirement of 30 minutes on an online math website, which we completed. It revolved around word problems, which I made him talk through aloud, so I could insure he understood the concepts and terminology.

Algebra Tutoring review by Stephanie in Johns Creek, GA
Tonight the student and I studied for her Algebra test on Monday. We reviewed the homework she had already completed, and she corrected the mistakes she had made. We then reviewed a homework from earlier in the week that she hadn't done well on, and she did a much better job completing it. We finished by doing more review problems. She is improving; she just needs to work on slowing down and checking over her work.

Algebra Tutoring review by Anne in Johns Creek, GA
We solved quadratic equations by using the quadratic formula. In some cases we needed to simplify radicals to get the answer in simplest form. Some of the radicals were imaginary numbers so we factored out "the square root of negative 1" or "i" and then proceeded and final answer was in "terms of i". The student did very well with this.
