Session Summaries by Algebra Tutors

Algebra Tutoring review by Ryan in Bucks County, PA
The student's teacher gave the class a worksheet to complete. The content was centered around solving quadratic equations. There are three basic methods available for accomplishing this. I had the student use two of the three methods on each problem. If both methods yielded the same answers, then he knew he did the problem right. However, if the answers did not agree, he would have to use the work he did with one method to figure out what he did wrong in the other. He is getting back up to speed quickly.

Algebra Tutoring review by Denise in Bucks County, PA
I was pleased with how many practice problems the student had been able to work through over the weekend, and doing so seemed to give him both confidence and a sense of direction regarding where we need to focus our time. We worked through a few problems that he was unable to complete on his own, and I again assigned some repetitious examples to help reinforce the concepts. This week, he is working on finding the equation of a line, solving complex equations, and identifying equations from a set of data. I am much more optimistic about his progress today, as I think working through the sample problems is helping him to retain the material. The more practice problems he is able to do on his own before his exam, the better chance I think he will have of passing.

Algebra Tutoring review by Sylwia in Bucks County, PA
Today I helped prepare the student for her exam on Thursday. We went over review sheets that she received from her teacher and made sure she understood all the concepts. This covered exponents, factoring, grouping, greatest common factor, SOAP, and definitions of terms that are necessary to know for her test. She picks up new information very quickly upon explanation. We went over everything she needs to know for the exams and she told me that she felt much better about the material now.
