Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Marilyn in Waltham, MA
The student and I used this session to focus on the ACT reading. She told me that she usually skims the passages, which I support. We worked on three different skimming techniques--reading the first and last sentence of each paragraph, skimming for key words, and broadly skimming the whole passage--on a variety of practice problems. I think each technique has its place, and I wanted her to get some practice with these techniques so that she will be prepared to make quick decisions about how to approach ACT passages. We reviewed two ACT reading passages together through the ACT student website, and then I timed her as she took one on her own. We reviewed that passage together afterwards.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Cole in Waltham, MA
We completed a practice test of the English section of the ACT. The student struggled at times with comma usage and with linking the ideas of a paragraph together, specifically on content-related questions (rather than syntax and punctuation). He has an excellent attitude and had no trouble staying motivated and on topic. We discussed test-taking strategies at the start of the session, specifically how to get through the English and reading sections in an efficient but effective manner. It is promising that several times he knew the correct answer almost instantly, which will allow him to dedicate more time to the more difficult questions.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Liang in Waltham, MA
Last session we agreed to two sets of math review and one writing prompt for the final day. The student's math scores are consistently improving, and he is making fewer mistakes. We discussed the preparation strategy for practice during the week and went over the mistakes from his practice. We also wrapped up with a test day checklist. He seems well prepared and is aware of the work he can still do before the test.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Michael in Waltham, MA
Today we mainly reviewed math, including such topics as creating and solving systems of equations, using parallel lines to form similar triangles, graphing equations of circles, and some trig problems. We worked on length at inequalities involving absolute values. Noting that a "greater than" inequality will result in two separate ranges of solutions and a "less than" inequality will result in one range of solution. We also touched on English, mostly looking at comma questions and transition questions.
