We've helped thousands of learners of all ages improve their reading and English skills including teaching English as a second language.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Scott in Santa Clara, CA
We focused on geometry this session, reviewing what we went over last time. I had the student take detailed notes on anything he didn't know well already. We did some small practice problems along the way and spent some time on multiple choice problems at the end. He seemed to have a good grasp of the concepts, but should do as much practice as possible to solidify them.

Today was mostly tackling triangles and trigonometry. We stumbled through a couple questions, which we will pick up for next time. As the test is approaching, the student will finish up the topic sections by next session in order to have the proper amount of time to work through test taking itself. Wording seems to be a major trip up point. I suggested keeping a vocabulary list and I will look for more problems with less clear wording to practice. Some topics, such as statistics, need either reminding or filling in the blanks of her knowledge. She is quick to understand concepts she has not seen previously. I hope to check in to see if the ideas have sunk in.

The student did amazing! We went through some more of her diagnostic test, identifying right and wrong answers. She is identifying the wrong answers on her own and explaining why she chose what she chose. I could not be happier! We went through some techniques for analogies and synonyms tonight and did some drills. Next week, we will cover more drills and again just drilling the 3 step process for analogies and synonyms. I'll also give her some testing techniques for math and reading comp. as well, but as a whole we are just going to focus on verbal! Great job again tonight!!!!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Sarah Brooke in Santa Clara, CA
The student started our session by finishing some math homework he had left over. The concepts were new, but he had no trouble doing the homework. Then we went over the prefixes he had come up with examples for. His examples were great, much more imaginative. Then we did some practice in the verbal section so that he could get a reminder of synonyms. I assigned him the two synonym sections that are left. Next, we went over the math review, and then I helped him with a new concept: expressions with multiple variables in them (4xyz, 12abc). He grasped the concept quickly, and we moved on to harder problems. I told him to review the reading section and then move forward with math as much as possible. Once he is done with his review, I'll have him take a practice test to see how he's improved.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Charles in Santa Clara, CA
The student and I worked on averages, rate of change, factoring quadratics, and absolute value equalities and inequalities, basic trigonometric values for sin, cos, and tan, and geometry questions. She's a quick learner and has reviewed all the topics, so I'm not too concerned about how she'll do. I left her with a practice test to do and additional practice questions so she has more exposure to the types of questions she'll see.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Anton in Santa Clara, CA
Today we primarily focused on the SAT reading section. I taught the student some useful ways of breaking down passages so that she was able to answer the questions easily. She has not yet completed a full essay. Right now, I have been focusing on developing good writing habits for it before she does a timed essay.
