ACT Math Tutoring review by Carolyn in Sacramento, CA
We reviewed some concepts with which she had trouble last time: weighted averages, subtracting polynomials, log rules, the distance formula, the area of a circle, factoring, and finding the angles in a figure. She did well with most of these and we will continue to review to keep the concepts fresh. She then took the first 20 minutes of a practice test, where she did well on time and we went over the questions she missed.

The student and I continued our math review work today. Again, when she can break a problem down, she demonstrates the ability to tackle them effectively. We worked on a number of concepts that we didn't cover the other day, and also started to build a study guide for her for the test, which we will finish tomorrow.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Joseph in Sacramento, CA
As the student and I got acquainted this morning, we began looking over her past ACT Math section. I also prepared her a formula sheet covering geometric area and volume, coordinate geometry, sequences, and complex numbers, so she can refresh her memory on those concepts.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Vy in Sacramento, CA
We focused on working through problems. The student does well following along with logic, and she would understand the material after different explanations. Next time, we'll work on breaking down problems into more manageable parts, and seeing more visually where the numbers and operations happen.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Amber in Sacramento, CA
Yesterday was our systems day. We went over the typical systems problems so that the student will be able to recognize them on the test: two situations asking when they would be the same, two unknowns, or a point of intersection. We went over solving by substitution and elimination, and how to recognize parallel (no solution) and coincident (infinitely many solutions) lines. We revisited the problems we starred last week so she could do those systems questions. I also showed her another method for factoring quadratic trinomials that uses factoring by grouping. We covered a lot of material, but I feel good about the progress we're making. Tomorrow is our geometry day!

ACT Math Tutoring review by Domenic in Sacramento, CA
This session was spent exclusively on the math section. The student has not done math like this for a while, so we had a lot of refreshing to do. It's off to a slow start, but he is grasping what we have covered relatively well. His homework was to try to refresh his knowledge on certain math problems, and I advised him to take a math diagnostic. Next session, we will work more on math and gradually work to harder topics.
