ACT English Tutoring review by Shannon in Pasadena, CA
Today, the student and I started geometry. I started at the very beginning, with points, lines, and angles. Then, I moved to shapes, such as triangles, rectangles, and circles. She is very good at incorporating algebra into geometry and figuring out missing values, which is very common on the exam. We did numerous problems that dealt with area, perimeter, supplementary angles, right triangles, etc. In general, she is off to a great start. I stressed paying attention to the question and not confusing length of a side, area, and perimeter. She's definitely gotten the hang of estimating the answer, which is such an asset and will serve her well on test day. Then, we worked on synonyms. Her vocabulary is definitely very good. I made a note of words she did not know.

ACT English Tutoring review by Karen in Pasadena, CA
We worked on problems that had to do with interest rates on credit cards. We compared different rates and years of pay off and found amount saved by paying off cards earlier. We also worked on simple interest problems finding the interest as well as the principal. I had the student work conversion problems with percents and fractions, putting them in order from greatest to least. Other problems that she worked had to do with Pythagorean theorem. She did well and worked hard and had a great attitude. She plans to check with her math teacher at school to see if she can get her old tests so we can go over them together and work on concepts she is struggling with.
